This year’s AGO/OHS Organ Experience takes us to fabulous venues on the Gold Coast! Starting at the amazing Second Presbyterian Church in the South Loop, where the real money used to live before moving north, we will hear the grand sound of the 1917 Austin while we gaze at Tiffany windows in an enormous and resplendent Art Nouveaux room. Our next stop takes us to the current Gold Coast and St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in a beautiful, warm, and intimate Tudor room featuring its fabulous Fisk installed in 2004. St. Chrysostom’s, a truly beautiful complex transporting us to an English countryside, is also home to grand carillon in its bell tower. Lunch will be in St. Chrysostom’s elegant Harding Room. Holy Name Cathedral is next. The seat of the Archdiocese of Chicago since 1875, it has seen many changes, alterations, and remodeling projects – several of them due to fires! The ceiling alone is worth the visit. We will experience the Cathedral’s grand Flentrop in the gallery, free-standing Casavant in the south chancel, and another Flentrop in the chapel. Our final stop is the iconic Fourth Presbyterian Church and its terrific new Quimby – the largest organ in the city and perhaps anywhere in this region. Old world gothic splendor with a brand new pipe organ.
